GMAT Exam Focus Edition: 1st Exam on Nov 7, 2023; To Completely Replace Present GMAT on January 31, 2024; Registrations Open; Check Pattern, Preparation, Top Colleges

 

Graduate Management Admission Test, popularly known as GMAT will have a shorter test duration of 2 hours 15 minutes. While the registration process for shorter version of GMAT - named as ‘GMAT Exam Focus Edition’ is available, it will completely replace earlier long GMAT from February 1, 2024 onwards, while the present version of GMAT exam will continue till January 31, 2024.

 

Confirming the update, Graduate Management Council (GMAC), the GMAT exam conducting body has shared, ‘Starting February 1, 2024, the only version of the GMAT available for business school candidates to take will be the updated GMAT Focus Edition following the sunset of the previous GMAT Exam on January 31, 2024.

GMAT Focus Edition exam appointments are available starting November 7, 2023 and till January 31, 2024, you can opt either for present version of GMAT or GMAT Focus Edition. However, after January 31, 2024, you will be able to appear only in GMAT Focus Edition. The Registration process for GMAT Focus Edition Exam has opened from August 29, 2023. Like GMAT, the GMAT Focus Edition will be conducted round the year at Exam Centres as well as Online Proctored Test from the convenience of home.

 

Accepted for MBA admission across the world, GMAT offers you an international MBA or Masters in Management (MiM) degree from a leading Business School in USA, Europe, Canada, Australia, Singapore or other international destinations. Many top MBA colleges in India accept GMAT score for admission to one year MBA and some of them also accept GMAT for their 2 year flagship MBA/PGDM programs. GMAT is conducted round the year and offers opportunity to the MBA aspirant to appear in the exam 5 times a year. The cost of appearing in one GMAT exam at Test Center is USD 275 (Eqv Rs.22,000 Apprx).

  • GMAT Exam Focus Edition: Effective Feb 1, 2024, GMAT will be of 2 hr 15 minutes duration
  • 3 Section Exam: Instead of present 4 sections, GMAT Focus Edition has 3 sections
  • Equal Sectional Time Limit: Each section in GMAT Focus Edition has 45 minutes duration
  • Scoring Pattern Changed: Instead of present score range of 200-800, it has 205-805 score range
  • Two Testing Modes: GMAT 2023 Exam is scheduled in Two Modes – CBT and Online Test
  • Current GMAT Exam testing appointments will be available till January 31, 2024.
  • GMAT Focus Edition will be the only exam available from February 1, 2024

1. What is GMAT and GMAT Focus Edition? Know All About GMAT Exam Details
GMAT full form is Graduate Management Admission Test. GMAT is the gateway to international MBA. Its scores are accepted by more than 2400 B-schools for admission to their management programs worldwide. Conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) for more than 60 years, the GMAT exam has been the test of choice by the world’s business leaders to get into the world’s leading business schools. 1.1 What is GMAT Present Form?
GMAT is a ‘computer-adaptive’ entrance examination. This is different from being merely a ‘computer-based’ test. In a computer-adaptive test, candidates will receive questions one at a time and the difficulty level and score of the GMAT 2023 will depend on the accuracy of the previous answer of the candidate. GMAT is fast gaining popularity in India. In addition to International B-schools, the colleges accepting GMAT score in India are more than hundred. 1.2 What is GMAT Focus Edition? Shorter GMAT
Moving forward, GMAC has announced to bring more aspirant friendly changes in GMAT exam with fewer questions, reduction in sections from 4 to 3, reduction in time duration to 2 hours 15 minutes and making all the sections accountable for score calculation. With all these changes, the GMAT Fopus Edition is launched with the revised nomenclature as GMAT Exam Focus Edition. Check Complete details below

 

The first GMAT Focus Edition exam is scheduled on November 7, 2023.  However, the current format of GMAT will continue till January 31, 2024 to facilitate in-progress business school applications and to provide several options for candidates to meet current Round 1, 2 and 3 deadlines. GMAT Exam scores will continue to remain valid for five years from the candidate’s appointment date.

3. GMAT Test Pattern 2023: Key Facts

  • GMAT exam has a sectional time limit which varies with each section.
  • Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning sections in GMAT Exam are computer adaptive and have multiple-choice questions.
  • In the Quantitative Reasoning & Verbal Reasoning sections, one cannot skip, return to or change the response to the previous questions.
  • There are two 8-minutes breaks during the GMAT exam. These breaks are, however, optional
  • Test takers are given three options to choose the order in which they can attempt the four sections of the GMAT exam. Test takers can attempt the exam in one of the following three orders –
    • Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, Verbal
    • Verbal, Quantitative, Integrated Reasoning, Analytical Writing Assessment
    • Quantitative, Verbal, Integrated Reasoning, Analytical Writing Assessment
  • Analytical Writing Assessment consists of an essay question and Integrated Reasoning consists of non-MCQs
  • Score is based on QR & VR sections. Both Analytical Writing Test (AWA) and Integrated Reasoning are not Counted for Score Calculation.

GMAC has announced to launch new version of GMAT - GMAT Exam Focus Edition in 2024 with more flexibility, shorter duration, three sections instead of present four sections with the score of all the 3 sections taken into account for score and percentile calculation. The registration for the GMAT Exam Focus Edition begins on August 29, 2023 and the first GMAT exam focus edition will be conducted from October 2023.

 

The current version of the GMAT™ exam will continue to be available until early 2024 to facilitate your in-progress preparation and applications for business school. The GMAT new version – GMAT Exam Focus Edition will be launched with many aspirant friendly changes as below:

5. GMAT Syllabus 2023
GMAT exam syllabus is clearly defined for each of its four sections. However, the GMAT syllabus will change in 2024 with the launch of revised format of GMAT Exam Focus Edition. GMAT is conducted in two testing modes – Computer based test at Exam Centres and Online Proctored Test which you can take from the convenience of your home. However, the GMAT syllabus for both testing modes is same. Shared below is the GMAT section wise syllabus:

  • Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA): This section involves analyzing an argument and presenting a well-structured, coherent essay response within a given time limit.
  • Integrated Reasoning (IR): The IR section measures the ability to evaluate and analyze data presented in various formats, such as tables, graphs, and multi-source reasoning questions.
  • Quantitative Reasoning (QR): The QR section tests mathematical and analytical skills. It includes questions related to data sufficiency and problem-solving, covering topics like arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and statistics.
  • Verbal Reasoning (VR): The VR section assesses reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction skills. It includes passages to read, questions to answer based on those passages, and questions that test English grammar and usage.

  • Step-5: Check & Confirm GMAT exam Registration details: Please note to check that all the details you have entered are correct. You can edit the same also at this stage
  • Step-6: Make payment of GMAT exam fees: The GMAT Exam Fees is notified in US Dollar, you will need to pay the GMAT Exam Fees in Rupees equivalent to USD fees

7.3 GMAT exam fees Payment 2023: Options Available
GMAT Registration Fees can be paid through multiple options as below:

  • Pay Online/NEFT: You can make payment online through internet banking or through NEFT
  • Payment with Credit Cards and Debit Cards: GMAC accepts payments through  VISA, Mastercard, American Express and Discover Network Cards. Charges on your credit card statement will most likely appear as “VUE*GRAD MGMT TEST” for exams delivered at a test center, or "DRI*EXAMITY LLC" for exams delivered online. 8. GMAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria
GMAT exam 2023 eligibility criteria would not discriminate based on nationality, religion, sex, background, history and will be based on following parameters:

  • GMAT Academic Eligibility Criteria: Bachelor's degree from a recognized institute/university. Students in the final year of graduation or working professionals with bachelor’s degree can write the GMAT exam.
  • Passport: Applicants must hold a valid passport at the time of the GMAT exam.
  • Minimum Age for GMAT Eligibility: The applicant should be of 18 years and above age to be eligible to appear for the GMAT. If a candidate is under 18, he/she has to submit written proof from parents/guardians to appear for the GMAT exam. There is no upper age limit for the GMAT exam.
  • GMAT Accepting College Eligibility Criteria: Candidates appearing in GMAT should check and ensure their GMAT eligibility criteria for the preferred B-schools. Qualifying for the GMAT exam may not get admission in the respective management institute

  • Your GMAT Score card includes your exam appointment details, some personal data that was provided at registration, individual section scores, Total Score, and percentile rankings
  • Your GMAT Official Score Report that you receive will include all GMAT exams that you have taken within the past five years
  • Any GMAT scores cancelled by you will not be included in the score report.
