After completing the Personal Interview Round for CAP 2023 on March 4, 2023, IIM Udaipur has released the merit list of candidates who participated Common Admission Process (CAP) 2023 for admission to 9 IIMs including IIM Kashipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Raipur, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Sambalpur and IIM Sirmaur. All these 9 IIMs have released admission offers to eligible candidates after incorporating their CAP round score to their final selection criteria. It is understood that around 14000 candidates are finally selected for MBA admission 2023 by these IIMs consequent upon increase in their MBA seats for 2023-25 batch
IIM Udaipur was the coordinating IIM for Common Admission Process (CAP) 2023 for 9 new IIMs. The process was conducted from Feb 13 to March 4, 2023 in Online mode. The last date for CAP 2023 registration process was closed on January 22, 2023 at 5 PM. Only the registered candidates for CAP 2023 could participate in common PI round for admission to the CAP participating IIMs. This year the first stage shortlisting for all the CAP 2023 participating 9 IIMs was announced with changes in shortlisting criteria.

1. What is CAP 2023?
Common Admission process or CAP 2023 is the final selection round for MBA admission 2023 in new IIMs. CAP 2023 is likely to be conducted in the month of February-March 2023. Exact dates will be announced by the CAP coordinating IIM Udaipur shortly as the CAT exam result has been released on December 21, 2022. The CAP round has two main components - Personal Interview (PI) and Writing Ability Test (WAT). However, in the CAP 2023, there will be no WAT and the entire weightage will be given to PI round.
CAP 2023 is a single point selection process and is common for all the participating IIMs. Candidates are not required to separately appear in PI-WAT for each of the participating IIMs as the scores of CAP are applicable for all the participating IIMs. Final admission offer to the candidates is released by the new IIMs based on the performance in CAP round, CAT score, Academic Profile, diversity, work experience among other parameters. 2. List of IIMs Participating in CAP 2023
The CAP round is organized for the IIMs which started operation in 2010-11 and for the new generation IIMs that started operating in 2015-16. It is the final selection round comprising common PI process for the 9 IIMs. After getting the CAP score from CAP coordinating IIM Udaipur, these IIMs have released or about to release their final admission offer to students as per following details:

2.1 New and Baby IIMs in CAP 2023
Out of total 13 new and baby IIMs, 9 IIMs will participate in new IIM Admission process -CAP 2023 for admission to their flagship MBA/PGP programs.
2.2 Five New IIMs in CAP 2023
Out of 6 New IIMs, 5 IIMs namely IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Tiruchirappalli and IIM Udaipur are participating in CAP 2023. IIM Rohtak has opted out of Common Admission process and will conduct its own PI-WAT round.
2.3 Four Baby IIMs in CAP 2023
Out of the 7 Baby IIMs, 4 of them namely, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur are participating in CAP 2023.
2.4 IIM Rohtak, IIM Amritsar, IIM Nagpur & IIM Visakhapatnam Not to participate in CAP 2023
Out of all the new and baby IIMs, IIM Amritsar, IIM Nagpur, IIM Rohtak and IIM Visakhapatnam are not participating in CAP 2023 and will conduct their own final admission process.
3. How CAP Round is conducted?
Prior to Covid pandemic situation, CAP round, the common PI-WAT round for all the 9 IIMs was conducted with the physical presence of the candidates at the Personal Interview (PI) venue. However, later on due to grave Covid pandemic situation, the process was conducted online. In the online conduct of CAP, personal interview is conducted online and writing ability test is not conducted. Accordingly weightage for WAT is taken out of the maximum marks. Important Covid instructions to conduct CAP will be issued by CAP coordinating IIM Udaipur. CAP 2023 is likely to begin mid February, 2023 in three phases for MBA admission in 9 IIMs.

6.1 How to Check Shortlist Status & Register for CAP 2023
You can check your CAP shortlist status at CAP website which has a prominent link as below: https://cap2023.iimu.ac.in/login. You need to login with your CAT 2022 registration ID and password. Previous login window is shared below
6.3 CAP 2023 Shortlist: 20000+ Shortlisted
With the increased number of seats at each IIM, 20000+ candidates who qualify the sectional and overall cut offs in CAT 2022 exam may figure in the CAP 2023 shortlist.
The CAP 2023 coordinating IIM Udaipur announced the CAP shortlist for all the participating IIMs for PI round. It is reiterated that the CAP 2023 selection process is the final admission round for IIMs and will consist of Personal Interview (PI) only.

7. IIM CAP 2023: Key Guidelines & Documents Required for CAP Registration
You need to fill the CAP 2023 registration form, if you are one of the candidates who are eligible to appear in CAP 2023 PI round. But before filling the CAP registration form, you should go through the below given guidelines and instructions carefully. Please note you will not be allowed to modify the registration form after it is submitted.
7.1 Required Documents
Keep the following documents in hand before filling the CAP 2023 registration form:
1. Soft copy of the Photograph (Less than 100 KB)
2. Soft copy of the Signature (Less than 100 KB)
3. Photo Identity Card Document
4. CAT 2022 Score Card
5. 10th & 12th Marksheet with a pass certificate
6. Graduation related certificates:
- Graduation Marksheet of all semester/years.
- Degree Certificate
- Provisional Degree Certificate is required for those who have completed the graduation in the year of 2022 but not received the degree certificate.
- Those who are in the final year graduation, s/he should upload the certificate as per the CAT 2022 format, which will be obtained from the competent authority by following the CAT website’s format.
- Certificate and mark sheets of any other degree-Masters/Professional Qualification as mentioned in the CAT form.
7. Experience related certificates:
- Please do not consider training and apprenticeship as an experience.
- Experience Certificate of all past companies. The certificate must be on the company letterhead with seal and signature of the competent authority.
- Service certificate is required from the company letterhead's competent authority with the seal and signature for those presently working. Otherwise, please provide the offer letter/Joining letter with a first-month payslip and payslip of the latest two (2) months.
- In case the candidate is a proprietor or partner of a firm, the candidate has to provide the document proof such as the income tax for the relevant period and a certificate of registration for doing a business from the municipal corporation or appropriate authorities such as MSME certificate issued by Govt. of India, Udyog Aadhar Registration Certificate, Partnership deed of the firm duly signed by all partners and GST registration certificate.
- In case a candidate has worked or is working in the unorganised sector, the candidate has to provide the cash voucher along with the bank statement as a proof for the salary and the GST registration of the firm with the experience certificate.
- Provide a valid caste certificate (NC-OBC/SC/ST) as per the format given on the CAT website. In the case of NC-OBC, it should be valid for the next six months from the date of registration.
- In the case of DAP/PWD, please provide the certificate following the format given on the CAT website.
- In the case of EWS, the certificate should be valid for the year 2022-23 (based on the income for the FY 2021-22). For format, please visit the CAT website.
- Co-curricular and extra-curricular certificates.
- Please check your inbox as well as SPAM or Junk or promotion boxes regularly.
7.2 Guidelines for CAP registration for candidates with Incomplete documents
- If you do not possess the required documents as specified in the CAP registration form, you are required to upload the available documents along with “Undertaking for Incomplete Documents” duly filled-in and signed by you.
- If you are facing the issues related to validity of the certificate, certificates printed in the regional languages, and/or different format other the CAT format for the certificates related to EWS/NC-OBC/DAP, please upload the document that you have along with the “Undertaking for Incomplete Documents” duly filled-in and signed by you.
- If you are presently a working candidate, please mention for the “To date”, the date of filling the registration form. However, consideration of experience for preparing the merit list/ score depends on the policy of the respective IIMs
7.3 IIM CAP 2023: Key Requirements to Participate in the Online CAP process
Instead of in person PI-WAT round, you would attend the CAP 2023 in Online mode due to Covid pandemic. Please note the following requirements for CAP personal interview round through online mode:
- Desktop/Laptop with camera
- Headphone/earphone
- Microphone
- Stable and high-speed Internet connection
- Stationary items such as pens/pencils/blank sheet
- Installation of Zoom software on Desktop/Laptop
- A white background or a clear background of a lighter colour ensuring better visibility
- A valid photo ID for verification
8. How to participate in Online CAP 2023?
- The link for Online Personal Interview will be sent to the candidate’s registered email ID two-three days prior to the interview
- Candidates are required to join the Online Personal Interview by clicking on the provided link to attend the interview on the designated date and time of the interview
- Candidates must be prepared for the interview with the necessary requirements as mentioned above on the designated date and time
- No person other than the candidate should be present in the interview room in the house/any other place
- Recording devices are strictly prohibited in the interview room
- The audio and video must be ‘on’ for the entire duration of the interview
- Candidates are advised to be available for the entire slot of PI round as communicated

9. Key Tips to Prepare for CAP 2023

These IIMs will make their final admission offer individually on the basis of the marks scored in PI in CAP 2023; CAT 2022 exam and other parameters like academic profile, diversity depending upon their respective admission criteria.

11. New IIMs Intake through CAP 2023
The CAP participating IIMs had an intake of 1700+ seats last year for 9 IIMs. It is expected that the intake will increase further before the final admission offer is released by IIMs.

12. CAT Cut off for CAP 2023: New IIMs Admission 2023
CAT 2023 score remains the basic shortlisting criterion of CAP 2023 for new IIMs admission process. The CAT overall cut off is 92 percentile and sectional CAT cut off is 70 percentile.
13. CAP 2023 Centers
CAP 2023 centres are five at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. However, since CAP 2023 will be conducted online, candidates can attend the PI round from their home on the designated date which will be communicated by the CAP coordinating IIM to the short-listed candidates.
14. CAP 2023 Rules: New IIM Admission Process
Common Admission Process (CAP) 2023 Rules for admission to MBA/PGDM 2023-25 are:
- Individual IIMs will not prepare shortlist based on CAP cut offs. A common shortlist will be prepared by the CAP coordinating IIM. The shortlisting criteria for all the IIMs participating in the CAP 2023 process are the same.
- From the combined list, Candidates will be called for the New IIMs Common Admission Process comprising Common Personal Interview (PI). No WAT will be conducted for admission 2023
- Request for change of CAP centre 2023 should reach the admission cell/e-mail ID of CAP coordinating IIM on or before the last date which may fall in the last week of January/first week of February, 2023. These requests will be accommodated solely at the discretion of CAP conducting IIM and would be communicated to candidates.
- Each IIM will take the PI score of the candidates shortlisted by them and combine it with other scores-CAT 2022 Score, Profile score and any other score to make their own individual merit list to make final admission offers to the candidates.
- Only PI will be conducted commonly for the new IIMs.
- The final merit list of candidates will be arrived by each IIM according to its own selection criteria.
- These criteria will be available on the websites of the respective institutes.
- Candidates may also be informed that attending the CAP 2023 process is compulsory for all the shortlisted candidates.
15. How to know when to participate in CAP 2023?
The shortlisted candidates can check their CAP 2023 dates on website of respective IIMs and will also be informed on their registered mail. The candidates who are not shortlisted by the 9 new IIMs will not be sent further communication.
16. Coordination process between New and old IIMs
Students shortlisted for some older IIMs might not have to appear for the CAP, as some of the older IIMs will share their Personal Assessment (PA) scores with CAP Coordinating IIM. Those candidates who have been called by more than 1 older IIM will have their scores averaged across the IIMs where they have been interviewed. Finally, the scores of PA Process will be shared with the other IIMs participating in CAP, who will then make their own merit lists according to the normalized scores.
17. New IIMs CAP 2023: Step by Step Process
Step 1: Shortlist by Individual IIMs
Each of the new IIMs will shortlist the candidates independent of each other. Candidates are shortlisted at the 1st stage around 10 to 12 times of the intake for MBA admission 2023 by each IIM. It may create the multiplicity of calls for the same candidate if he/she meets the shortlisting criteria of many IIMs.
Step 2: Each IIM sends shortlist to CAP 2023 Coordinator IIM
Each CAP participating IIM forwards its list of shortlisted candidates to the CAP 2023 coordinating IIM.
Step-3: CAP Conducting IIM to create Final List of Shortlisted Candidates for CAP 2023 Calls
CAP coordinating IIM will combine the list of all participating IIMs and prepare a final list of candidates for CAP 2023 Calls. The IIM will then send out calls to these candidates. More than 20,000 candidates are to get New IIMs CAP 2023 Calls.
Step 4: Candidates to participate in PI Process
CAP 2023 Personal Assessment (PA) round will only have Personal Interview (PI) as Written Abilities Test (WAT) will not be conducted. Also there will be no Group Discussion. A candidate will be asked to appear in CAP through Online mode instead of at one of the 5 CAP Centers New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.
Step 5: CAP 2023 Scores to be sent by Coordinating IIM to participating IIMs
Based on the performance of the candidates in the PI round, CAP coordinating IIM will prepare the scores for the CAP Round. This will be sent to all the participating IIMs after CAP round is over.
Step 6: All IIMs to prepare their own Final Admission List
Each participating IIM has its own admission policy. They will provide weightages to CAT scores, CAP scores, and in some cases Applicants Profile, for making final admission offers. It is very much possible that one of the new IIMs may not send you final admission offer while others offer you admission based on your CAT 2022 scores and other parameters.
