The CMAT 2023 percentile range required for MBA admission 2023 may not go up in top MBA colleges. NTA awards higher percentile at low scores to the test takers. Out of 400 maximum marks, now the 95 to 99.99 percentile is awarded to a wide score range of 251 - 340 marks. CMAT 2023 Slot-2 Analysis

CMAT 2023 was conducted in two shifts – morning and afternoon on Thursday, May 4, 2023.  The exam has brought a few surprises for the test takers with a bit difficult 5th section on Innovation and Entrepreneurship but moderate Quant, easy LR and a bit lengthy RC. This is the second CMAT exam with 5 mandatory sections and reduced number of questions. Deviating from its earlier question pattern and difficulty level, although the total number of questions in CMAT 2023 have remained 100, but the sectional composition and number of questions in each section have changed.

CMAT Slot-2 Sectional Analysis 2023: Key Highlights & Questions

  • The CMAT exam overall difficulty level was moderate
  • General Awareness (GK) section was found tough with more questions on Static GK
  • Many GK questions were based on Education system, New Education policy, History and other topics

Section-1: Language Comprehension – Key Highlights

  • Total Questions: 20
  • Reading Comprehension (RC) Based Questions: 5
  • Non-RC Based Questions: 15

  • Data Interpretation Questions: Set of 5 questions on DI problem had Table based questions. Most of the DI questions needed simple calculations.
  • QA Questions: Arithmetic had maximum number of questions in the Quantitative Techniques section.
  • Out of 15 questions, 6 were on Arithmetic that consisted of questions on Time-speed-distance, Ratio-Proportion, Profit & Loss, Average and other topics. One question was on Geometry and one was on Modern Maths, 5 questions were on Numbers and 2 questions were on Algebra. Most of the questions were easy.
  • Question with Incorrect Answer: Some of the test takers reported that one question on Probability did not have the correct answer option

CMAT 2022 is being conducted on May 04, 2023 in two slots between 9 AM to 12 Noon (Slot 1) and 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM (Slot 2). This is the analysis of the first slot.

VERDICT
Overall, the difficulty level of slot 1 of CMAT 2023 was similar to that of CMAT 2022 (single slot).

 

As is the case generally with CMAT, this time too, time was not a constraining factor. Some of the questions in the five sections were sitters. However, some questions in both General Awareness and Innovation and Entrepreneurship sections were challenging. They could become the decisive questions and impact the overall percentile. Based on the feedback received from IMS candidates and experts, we expect the following cut-offs in CMAT 2023:

SECTIONAL ANALYSIS

 

Quantitative Technique and Data Interpretation:
This section was relatively easy in terms of Level of Difficulty. Out of 20 questions in the section, 5 were on Data Interpretation and the remaining 15 were on Quantitative Technique. A set of 5 questions on Data Interpretation consisted of questions based on Tables. Most questions on Data Interpretation involved simple calculations.

 

The questions on Quantitative Techniques were dominated by questions on Arithmetic. Out of 15 questions on Quantitative Techniques, 6 questions were on Arithmetic, which included questions on Time-speed-distance, Ratio-Proportion, Profit & Loss, SICI, Average, and Partnership. There was 1 question each on Geometry and modern Maths, 5 questions on Numbers and 2 questions on Algebra. Most of the questions on Quantitative Technique were easy. Students reported that one question on Probability did not have the correct answer in any of the options.

Logical Reasoning:
Out of the 20 questions in this section, 12 were on Non-Verbal Reasoning and 8 questions were on Verbal Reasoning. All the questions were standalone questions and there were no set based questions.

 

The questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning were spread across different topics in Logical Reasoning such as Directions, Series Completion, Counting the number of triangles and squares, Linear Arrangements, Family Tree, Coding etc. The questions on Verbal Reasoning included questions such as Syllogisms, strong/weak arguments, assertion-reason, analogy, odd one etc.

 

The questions were not lengthy and many questions were straightforward and very easy to solve.

Language Comprehension:
The Language Comprehension Section consisted of 5 Reading Comprehension questions and 16 Non-RC questions. The lengths of the three RC passages were in the range of 70 to 100 words. The passages were easy to read. The topics of RC passages were: Gandhi’s principles; Opinion on the subject of Poetry; Extract from a story. Most questions were easy to answer. The non-RC questions were easy as well.

Out of the 20 questions, 16 were based on Business and Entrepreneurship concepts (Nascent Entrepreneur; Phases of funding; Reasons for failure etc.). 4 questions were on Business GK. Overall, this section was of medium difficulty level.

The CMAT 2022 exam has got over at 6 PM on Saturday April 9 in a single session of 3 hours from 3 PM to 6 PM. CMAT 2022 Exam Analysis by IMS

CMAT 2022 was conducted on April 9, 2022 between 3 PM and 6 PM. The test is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

VERDICT
Overall, the test was slightly tougher than CMAT 2021.

 

As is the case generally with CMAT, this time too, time was not a constraining factor. Some of the questions in the five sections were sitters. However, some questions in both General Awareness and Innovation and Entrepreneurship sections were challenging. They could become the decisive questions and impact the overall percentile. Based on the feedback received from IMS candidates and experts, we expect the following cut-offs in CMAT 2022:

SECTIONAL ANALYSIS

 

Quantitative Technique and Data Interpretation:
This section was relatively easy in terms of Level of Difficulty. Out of 20 questions in the section, 5 were on Data Interpretation and the remaining 15 were on Quantitative Technique. The 5 questions on Data Interpretation consisted of questions based on Tables and Pie charts.  Most questions on Data Interpretation involved simple calculations.  

 

The questions on Quantitative Techniques were dominated by questions on Arithmetic. Out of 15 questions on Quantitative Techniques, 8 questions were on Arithmetic, which included questions on Percentages, Averages, Ratios, Compound Interest, Time-Speed-Distance and Time & Work). There were 2 questions each on Numbers, Geometry and Modern Mathematics (Probability) and one question on Algebra. Most of the questions on Quantitative Technique were easy. Students reported that one question on Probability did not have the correct answer in any of the options.

Logical Reasoning:
Out of the 20 questions in this section, 15 were on Non-Verbal Reasoning and 5 questions were on Verbal Reasoning. All the questions were standalone questions and there were no set based questions.

 

The questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning were spread across different topics in Logical Reasoning such as Directions, Series Completion, Arrangements, and Family Tree etc. Students reported that one question in Family Tree did not have the correct answer matching with any option.

 

The questions were not lengthy and many questions were straightforward and very easy to solve.

The Language Comprehension Section consisted of 4 Reading Comprehension questions and 16 NonRC questions. The length of the passages was around 350 words.. The non-RC questions were easy.

Out of the 20 General Awareness questions, 16 were based on Static GK. 4 questions were on Current Affairs. Around 11 questions were based on Indian events, 4 were on international ones and the remaining 5 were miscellaneous ones. Most of the questions were on Sports, constitution, history, books and authors, awards, physics, geography, etc. Overall, this section was difficult. 8 to 10 attempts in this section with 80 % accuracy would be a good attempt.

 

Innovation and Entrepreneurship:
Out of the 20 questions, 13 were based on Static GK. 7 questions were on Current Affairs. There were no RC passage based questions this year. Questions on business, economics, management, government schemes dominated this section. Overall, this section was difficult. 7 to 9 attempts in this section with 80 % accuracy would be a good attempt.

 CMAT Analysis 2021: Key Highlights & Questions

  • The CMAT exam overall difficulty level was moderate
  • General Awareness (GK) section was found tough with more questions on Static GK
  • Many GK questions were based on Education system, New Education policy, History and other topics
  • 14 RC based questions were placed in Language Comprehension section
  • Quant section was moderate and had more questions on Arithmetic. Few questions were also found on Algebra, P&C, Probability, Geometry and Mensuration.
  • Data Interpretation (DI) part in Quant section had PI chart and Table based questions of moderate difficulty level
  • Logical Reasoning was easier but had very close answer options
  • An additional section on Innovation & Entrepreneurship added in CMAT exam 2021 with 25 questions. Additional time of 30 minutes was given to attempt the new section
  • Questions in this section were asked on recent innovations, initiatives taken by Govt to boost Entrepreneurship
  • New section was optional and was not mandatory for all the candidates to attempt it. Only the candidates interested in this course needed to attempt this section
  • Total questions in CMAT question paper 2021 increased to 125 from earlier 100
  • There were 5 sections in CMAT 2021 instead of earlier 4 sections
  • Each of the five sections had equal number of 25 questions

NTA will determine CMAT percentile out of 400 marks based on the options exercised by the candidates. CMAT 2021 (Overall Analysis -Slot 1 & 2)

CMAT 2021 was conducted on March 31, 2021 in 2 slots (9 am -12.30 pm and 3 pm -6.30pm) . The test is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

 

CMAT added a new section to the test, making it a three and a half hour test from the earlier three hour test. The new section, Innovation and Entrepreneurship was optional and carried 25 questions. The candidates who opted for the additional section received 30 minutes extra.

  • Unlike Slot 1 which had all single questions including 2 DI questions which were single / standalone questions, Slot 2 had one DI set with 4 questions. The remaining questions in Slot 2 were single questions.
  • The Quant Section was slightly tougher compared to the Quant section of CMAT 2020
  • In both slots, students reported that the section had a lot of easy questions or sitters that required implementation of simple basic concepts.
  • As normally is the case, this section in both slots was dominated by Arithmetic based questions.

This year they have introduced two new types of questions asked only in slot 1.

  1. Two statements with two questions were given. In this, one needs to find true statement/samong the given statements. Here, one needs to solve 2 questions instead of one question.
  2. Another type was ‘Match the columns’.

Logical Reasoning

  • The Logical Reasoning section in both slots was quite doable and easier compared to the LR section of CMAT 2020.
  • There were 25 logical reasoning questions .3-6 questions were from Verbal Reasoning and the remaining questions were on Non Verbal Reasoning.
  • All the questions were stand-alone in slot 1. However in slot 2, there was one set of 3 questions on Sequential Output .In general, the questions were not lengthy and many questions were straight forward and very easy to solve.
  • According to students, the section had questions on Coding-decoding, Series, Analogies, Blood Relations, Circular Arrangement, Matrix Arrangement, Counting number of figures, Syllogisms, Visual Reasoning, Odd One Out, Sequential output etc.

  • There were significant differences between Slot 1 and Slot 2.
  • Slot 2 had only 5 questions of RC in 2 passages, whereas Slot 1 had 14 RC questions in 4 passages. In Slot 2 both the passages were easy to comprehend. The short passages in Slot 1were difficult.
  • In slot 2 there were 12 FIB questions in place of the 3 questions in slot 1. Slot 1 had predominantly grammar questions instead of Vocabulary.
  • The FIB questions were a mix of Vocab and Grammar, but most of them easy to answer.

CMAT 2021 Analysis by Career Launcher (CL)

CMAT was conducted on 31st January, 2021. The pattern of the paper, as given below, has not undergone any changes. There was negative marking in the paper. Each incorrect attempt fetched a penalty of 1 mark while each correct attempt fetched 4 marks. Un-attempted questions did not attract any negative marking. The division of the paper is given below.

CMAT 2021 Analysis: Logical Reasoning (Verbal)
The difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate. There was a total of 8 questions from verbal reasoning section out of the total 25 questions. The questions were fairly easy and direct. The language used was simple and tested the basic knowledge of the candidate.

CMAT 2021 Analysis: Logical Reasoning (Analytical)
There were 16 math-based reasoning questions. There was a set on blood relations consisting of 4 questions. Questions appeared from areas like Code decoding, Venn diagram, Rank, Analogy, number series, direction.

CMAT 2021 Analysis: Language Comprehension
The section was considerably easy compared to previous years. The Reading Comprehension (RC) questions were easy to moderate in difficulty level. The RC questions were mainly fact based and the passage was easy to comprehend. Furthermore, the replacement of underlined para and sentence completion questions tested the basic grammar knowledge of the candidate. There was one error correction asked. Overall, all the questions could have been attempted in the time period of 35 to 45 minutes. The breakup of questions is as follows:

CMAT 2021 Analysis: General Awareness
This year the General Awareness Section was dominated by questions from Static GK. There were hardly any questions from Current Affairs. The broad topics covered in Static GK were Indian Polity, Business & Economics and International Affairs.

Conclusion
CMAT 2021 for the most part was on the same lines as CMAT 2021. There was no paucity of time. The dominance of Static GK in the General Awareness section may prove to be the game changing factor.
