Dr Ballabh is confident that the growth in registrations will sustain, and may even pick up closer to the last date of XAT registration which is Nov 30, 2022
 XAT 2023 Registrations are up

Following the footsteps of the recently closed CAT 2022 registrations, which were up by 11%, the registrations for XAT 2023 are also up substantially. Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, Dr Vishwa Ballabh, XAT exam Convener has confirmed the same. He also revealed the exact percentage by which registrations are up, compared to last year. Dr Ballabh is confident that the growth in registrations will sustain, and may even pick up closer to the last date of registration – Nov 30, 2022.

Sharing with MBAUniverse.com, Dr Vishwa Ballabh, Convener of XAT 2023 exam and faculty at XLRI Jamshedpur said, “Yes, XAT 2023 Registrations are up this year.”

XLRI XAT 2023 is one of the most important MBA entrance exams with registration process open till November 30, 2022. After the close of CAT 2022 Registration, Xavier Aptitude Test, popularly known as XAT, is the only such MBA entrance exam which can get you admission in the top B-schools which  accept CAT score. While XAT is the mandatory entrance exam for admission to XLRI, its score is also accepted by 150+ B-schools for admission including IMI, IMT, MICA, K J Somaiya, LBSIM, IRMA, GIM, Great Lakes, XIMB, TAPMI among others. Every year around 1,00,000 candidates from all disciplines including Engineering, Commerce, Humanities, Science, Law apply and appear in XAT exam to get into of the various MBA programs offered by these top B-schools.

In the last many years, almost all the top MBA colleges accepting XAT score have increased seats in their flagship program and have also launched new programs, but the total number of candidates registering for XAT exam have remained more or less same. However, the scenario is getting changed this year as XAT 2023 convener expects a good percentage increase in number of XAT applicants

XAT 2023 Registrations are up by 15%: XAT Convenor Dr Vishwa Ballabh tells MBAUniverse.com
Sharing with MBAUniverse.com, XAT 2023 convener and admission chair at XLRI Jamshedpur, Dr Vishwa Ballabh  said, “As on date, there is a 15% hike in number of XAT applications this year, compared to previous year.” He is  also confident that this up trend will continue and said, “I am hoping that this year our record will be reaching more than the precovid periods which will be a record.” XAT registrations will continue till Nov 30, 2022.  This is not without substance as the XAT convener attributes this growth to a few key reasons

What is driving this growth? XAT Convener shares Reasons
Responding to MBAUniverse.com, Dr Ballabh said “I expect the number to increase significantly for two reasons

Reason-1: Increase in XLRI Seats
Attributing the rise in number of XAT registrations to increased seats and launch of new programs, XAT convener said, “XLRI has increased the total number of seats and also launched two new programmes like XLRI -Rutgers Double master’s programme, Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Venture Creation.”  XLRI has increased seats for its flagship PGDM Business Management 2023-25 batch to 240 students from earlier 180 students. Besides, the seats for PGDM (HR) program are 180. From this year, XLRI has also launched 2 years Double Masters Program in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Analytics in collaboration with Rutgers Business School, USA, one of the oldest and highly ranked University B-School with an initial intake of 30 seats. With the increase in number of seats not only in XLRI but also in other top B-Schools accepting XAT score, more applicants are applying for XAT 2023.

Reason-2: Top B-Schools Accepting XAT Score
With more an more top B-schools announcing to accept XAT exam score, candidates are keeping open their both options to explore MBA admission through CAT as well as XAT. For example, IMI New Delhi, LBSIM Delhi have announced to accept XAT score with CAT score. Sharing with MBAUniverse.com, Dr Ballabh said, “Secondly, there are many good XAT Associate members, the reputed institutions such as IMI, MICA, TAPMI, Great Lakes, GIM, XIMB, IRMA, KJ Somaiya etc who are also reaching out to our potential candidates and their inclination towards selection of the candidates for their programmes with their XAT scores.”

In the last decade, almost all the top MBA colleges accepting XAT score have increased seats in their flagship programs and have also launched new programs, but the total number of candidates registering for XAT exams have remained more or less same. As such, XAT registration numbers have been stagnant during last many years with barely 1% Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR). Stagnation in number of candidates applying for XAT and other exams for pursuing MBA poses a big challenge to management education in India. While the total number of XAT applicants and actual candidates in XAT appeared for exam go up and down marginally, there is not much deviation in percentage of test takers. With a 15% expected increase in XAT registrations this year, the Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) will register a marginal growth. If the percentage of candidates appearing in XAT 2023 goes up, it may register some good increase in actual XAT takers.

XLRI XAT 2023 exam will be held on January 8, 2023 in a single session as a computer based test of 3 hours 10 minutes duration. Last date to apply for XAT is Nov 30, 2022. This year XLRI has added more test cities for XAT exam. The exam is conducted every year by XLRI Jamshedpur for more than 70 years on behalf of XAMI.  XAT Registration process is online and is open on XAT official website ‘onlinexat’ with a Registration and Application fees of Rs.2000/-.
